YOU ARE NEEDED HERE {World Mental Health Day}
Posted on 10 October 2017
Scrolling through my Facebook feed today, I realised it's World Mental Health Day. I didnt' know this day even existed, but I'm jumping on it! It's so important.
I never really had much exposure or experience in depression or anxiety in my life. I had experienced seasons of sadness or just hard stuff & stress, and have felt 'blue' before. I think these are normal emotions from the ebbs and flows of life. But, when my sister passed away a few years back, mental health kind of punched me in the face.
I feel a bit inadequate trying to speak on such a big issue here on my humble little space on the interwebs, but when I think of mental health and think of those struggling with this debilitating illness, I think of these two messages I'd love to say:
Secondly I want to say, God's not scared of you. I know sometimes we can freak ourselves out by our thoughts. (I shared about my dark night after my sister died a while back.) My thoughts freaked me out. I panicked. But I want to say today; your messy, crazy thoughts don't scare Him. Your situation doesn't scare Him. He isn't rattled by darkness. He doesn't get thrown by what's going on in your mind. What we consider darkness is the equivalent of light to Him. Let that sink in. You do not scare God. Your thoughts don't scare God. Take it to Him.
I love this verse in the Bible from Psalm 139: 11-12 :
"If I say, “Surely the darkness will hide me and the light become night around me,” even the darkness will not be dark to you; the night will shine like the day, for darkness is as light to you."
Please find a safe person...share life with them...you are needed here. xo
